GUWAHATI, July 8 � Members of the Satra Mukti Sangram Samiti today staged a demonstration in front of the Administrative Block of the Gauhati University (GU) here in protest against the �discrepancies� in the results of the degree-level examination. They also demanded urgent steps to declare the results of the re-evaluation of the answer scripts before the beginning of the new admissions.
In a statement, the Satra Mukti Sangram Samiti said that it has been assured by the GU authorities of steps to declare the results of the re-evaluation of the degree fifth semester examination answer scripts by July 20. Similar steps would also be taken in the case of the results of the re-evaluation of the answer scripts of the first and third semester arrears subjects. Besides, the results of those students who have applied for admission in the other universities will also be declared by July 15 provided they apply for such steps, said the Satra Mukti Sangram Samiti.
City Correspondent adds: The Post Graduate Students� Union (PGSU), Gauhati University, has handed over a memorandum to the Controller of Examinations (GU) over the alleged anomalies in declaring the degree semester results.
In the memorandum, the student body pleaded that the re-evaluation results of 2nd and 3rd semesters should be declared before the commencement of admission into the postgraduate programmes, which will allow the students to enrol themselves and prevent a year�s loss of studies.
The GU PGSU also pointed out that the results of the Law exam, which were to be declared by June 23, are yet to be declared and the results of two semester are still pending. It added that two or three more websites should be developed for the admission process because the website through which the BA 6th semester results were to be declared had crashed. This must be done so that a similar problem does not arise during the admission process.
