Protest against CAB continues across the state

DIBRUGARH, Dec 5 - Protest against the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB) spilled over to educational institutions here as students from colleges took to streets today as mark of protest against the controversial Bill notwithstanding ongoing exams.

Several college students of Dibru College in collaboration with All Assam Students� Union (AASU) staged road blockade on Convoy Road near the college�s main gate for about half-an- hour. They burnt tyres on the roads and raised anti-BJP slogans. The protesting students condemned Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma for their support to the Bill and for going against the interest of the indigenous people of the state.

A section of students from DHSK Commerce College also staged demonstration with banners against CAB in front their college on KC Gogoi Path. They also voiced their concern about the Bill. The students were also backed by AASU.

The Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba-Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) also staged protest against the Bill by taking out a massive torch rally from its office in Khemka complex to Thana Chariali. The protestors said that they would not accept the anti Assamese legislation.

Doomdooma Correspondent adds: At the call of Doomdooma regional committee of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP), people from all walks of life blocked the NH - 37 at Rupai Siding Tiniali here with torch this evening protesting against the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill. Doomdooma units of All Assam Students' Union, All Moran Students' Union, Bir Lachit Sena and several other ethnic organisations extended their support.

The protestors shouted slogans against the CAB as well as against the Central and the State governments. They also held a protest meeting on the road which was addressed by AJYCP Tinsukia district committee president Surajit Moran, AASU Doomdooma regional committee secretary Protim Neog, All Moran Students� Union Doomdooma regional committee president Joykanta Moran, Doomdooma branch Bir Lachit Sena advisor Hemanta Bora, Doomdooma Sakha Sahitya Sabha secretary Deben Deka and several others .

AJYCP activists also blocked Doomdooma - Phillobari PWD road at Gabharubheti this morning to register their voice of protest against CAB.

A Correspondent adds from Nagaon: Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad, Nagaon unit today took out a torch light rally this evening throughout the town against the Citizenship Amendment Bill. During the protest, the members shouted slogans against the Centre and the State Government.

Pragjyotish Bania, general secretary of AJYCP, Nagaon unit, said that they would oppose the Bill tooth and nail and appealed to the Centre not to move further in this regard.

Jorhat Staff Correspondent adds: Activists of Jorhat district unit of AJYCP this evening took out a torch rally in Jorhat town opposing the CAB. The protestors shouting slogans against Central and State BJP leaders, took out the rally through the main thoroughfares of the town.

Udalguri Correspondent adds: Udalguri district committee of Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad (AJYCP) today brought out a torch procession against the Citizenship Amendment Bill (CAB).
