GUWAHATI, Dec 26 - The teachers of Pragjyotish College here today staged a sit-in demonstration on the college premises demanding immediate scrapping of the contentious Citizenship (Amendment) Act, 2019.
The teachers, wearing black badges, staged the protest from 10:30 am holding placards with slogans like �No CAA�, �Withdraw CAA�, etc.
A tribute programme was also organised in the evening for those who had lost their lives during the recent anti-CAA protests.
Teacher of the college Biswajyoti Mahanta said, �The Act violates the norms of the Constitution and poses a threat to the Assamese language. We demand that the government scrap the Act immediately for the greater interest of the Assamese society.�
