By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, April 9 - The members of the State wing of the All India Peoples Science Network (AIPSN) will hold a meeting at the Lakshmiram Baruah Sadan here at 4 pm of April 11 as part of the worldwide march for science, scheduled for April 14, 2018, to register protest against the incidents of attack on science and reason across the globe.

The organisers of the march in the State stated in a press release here today that a procession will also be taken out after the meeting on April 11 and appealed to all right-thinking people to take part in the April 11 programme en masse to uphold the banner of science and reason in this part of the globe.

The organisers of the programme have urged the people of Assam also to raise the demands for an end to the attacks on science and reason as well as the current practice of spreading obscurantist values through the use of public institutions practised by some forces in the country.

The demands should also include the arrest and punishment of those involved in the murder of rationalists Dr Narendra Dabholkar, Govind Pansare and Professor MM Kalburgi and journalist Gauri Lankesh, enhancement in the spending on school and higher education up to six per cent of the countrys GDP and increase in the spending on scientific research and development up to three per cent of the countrys GDP, said the organisers.

Though the global march for science is scheduled for April 14, the organisers of the march in Assam have preponed the programme to April 11 in view of the global programme coinciding with the Rongali Bihu festival here, said the organisers.
