By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, May 8 - Condemning yesterdays alleged attack on NEDA convenor and State Finance Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma by Trinamool Congress (TMC) workers in East Midnapore district of West Bengal, the ruling BJP today called for action against those responsible.

BJP cadres held a protest at Maligaon here against the incident. They burnt the effigy of TMC leader and West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee. The saffron cadres also shouted slogans against the TMC and Banerjee and called for action against those involved in the alleged attack on the convoy of Sarma and BJPs West Bengal unit president Dilip Ghosh at Khejuri in East Midnapore district.

Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal also condemned the attack on Sarma and Ghosh and called upon the West Bengal government to conduct an inquiry into the incident and punish those responsible.

The Assam State unit of BJP said TMC is getting apprehensive due to the rising popularity of the saffron party in West Bengal. We have a firm belief that BJP will perform very well in West Bengal in the ongoing Lok Sabha elections. TMC is getting apprehensive on account of this and so they are resorting to such type of acts. The BJP will foil the designs of Congress, Mamata Banerjee and all others who are trying to pose a threat to our democracy, State BJP spokesperson Rupam Goswami said.
