By Correspondent

JORHAT, June 8 Demanding permanent solution of the problem of artificial flood in Jorhat town Asam Jatiyatabadi Yuva Chatra Parishad of Bhogdoi unit conducted a road blockade programme on NH-37 near Bhogdoi bridge here today.

They also shouted slogans and submitted a memorandum to Jorhat Deputy Commissioner.

Last week, the citizens of Jorhat had to suffer a lot due to the flash flood. For three days, several parts of the town remained under water leaving the inhabitants of those areas in trouble. The concerned authority of Jorhat district failed to clear the drains and outlets to let out the logged water inside the town. The activists of the organisation today demanded that the district administration should ensure that the same situation in the town does not occur in near future.

It may be mentioned that a high level committee was formed by district administration to solve the problem of waterlogging inside the town. The committee also submitted a report in this context and stated that the poor drainage system and encroachment beside the canals and rivulets inside the town area were the main cause behind the artificial flood.

The AJYCP activists warned the district administration that it will carry its agitation if the artificial flood is not solved.

An organising committee was formed in this connection. A souvenir will be released on the occasion. The employees of the treasury offices are requested to submit their writings at Jorhat or Barpeta treasury offices, stated a press release.
