Protest affects oil operations in Dibrugarh

DIBRUGARH, Oct 27 � Oil operations in the district was obstructed today jointly by Asom Jatiyatabadi Yuba Chatra Parishad, Sonowal Kachari Students� Union and Dibrugarh District Chutia Students� Union in protest against the alleged anti-local policy of the management of the Oil India Limited (OIL) in recruiting personnel for its industry.

The protesting organisations of the district have demanded that the age bar for employment to the industry be raised to 38 years, as the rule followed by the State Government. The organisations have also demanded recruiting at least 200 personnel from each of the Employment Exchanges of the district. The three organisations launched their 72-hour oil blockade today in support of their demands.

All oil operating areas like Tingkhong, Kenduguri, Shalmari, Naharkatia, Duliajan, Tengakhat, Modarkhat, Dighalia were blocked by the members of the three organisations. OIL officials led by Residential Chief Executive N K Agarwal invited the leaders for discussion this afternoon in Duliajan but failed to concede to the demands of the organisation. AJYCP, Dibrugarh said that they would continue with their ongoing protest.
