Proposed car washing unit in residential area opposed

HAFLONG, June 26 - Residents of NC Hills Autonomous Council colony here have vehemently opposed the proposal to set up a car washing centre in their residential area as it would create public nuisance and also harm the serene ambience of the locality.

In this regard Golon Daulagupu, former Executive Member of NC Hills Autonomous Council along with several residents recently lodged a complaint before the Deputy Commissioner in protest against the proposal for establishment of a car washing centre in the residential area of NCHAC Colony.

It was stated that the Pollution Control Board of Assam recently granted permission to establish a car washing centre within the Autonomous Council colony just adjacent to quarter No. 6, quarter No. 1 and near the residence of Golon Daolagupu without any official enquiry or even as much as a visit by officials of the Pollution Control Board of Assam.

The nearby residents of the proposed car washing centre are of the opinion that, if established, the facility would pose a serious health hazard and even harm the serene ambience of the locality.

Moreover, there exists fisheries, ring well and sources of drinking water which would be directly contaminated by the waste water discharged from the proposed car washing centre. Apart from these, there is an apprehension of public nuisance in and around the locality.

Above all, the people of the entire area are vehemently opposing the setting up of a car washing centre in their locality.
