Proper railway service demanded in Jorhat

JORHAT, June 3 � Participating in an interaction with journalists and some representatives of local organisation on the occasion of celebrating the Passenger and Customer Facilitation Fortnight some senior officials of Northeast Frontier Railway today said that they will increase facilities of safe drinking water and some other required infrastructure to shape Jorhat Railway Station as a model railway station of the country.

Asked about railway authority�s plan for construction of over-bridges on busy Gar Ali and Na Ali railway gates, the technical officials replied that construction of such an over-bridge is kept pending by the State Government despite railway authority was ready to bear the 50 per cent of the total cost of the project.

Representatives of many local organisations demanded the officials of NF Railway to start the service of Jana Satabdi Express from Jorhat to Guwahati every morning as only one train of such category cannot provide adequate service to the passengers and businessmen of a commercial city like Jorhat.

The representatives also demanded the service of Rajdhani Express from Jorhat Railway Station and another daily train from Jorhat to Kolkata and Delhi. Senior officials including senior divisional engineer of Tinsukia division Mahendra Singh, divisional commercial manager GN Basumatary were present in the interaction programme.
