Proper execution of Bodo Accord demanded

JALAH, July 5 � As part of a series of agitation programmes, the Ex-BLT Welfare Society and Surrendered NDFB jointly took out a rally in the headquarters of the four BTAD districts of Baksa, Udalguri, Kokrajhar and Chirang recently in a bid to put pressure on the government to fulfil their various demands, including proper implementation of the Bodo Accord of 2003.

In Baksa district, the rally was taken out at Barama where a memorandum was submitted to the Chief Minister through the Baksa Deputy Commissioner PC Gohain. The rally was led by the Baksa district unit of the Ex-BLT Welfare Society office-bearer Govinda Basumatary. BPF MLA from Barama, Maneswar Brahma also participated in the rally.

The demands in the memorandum include grant of ST(H) status to the Boro Kacharis living in Karbi Anglong and NC Hills districts as per Clause 8 of the MoS of the Bodo Accord signed between the now-defunct Bodo Liberation Tigers (BLT) and the Government of India in 2003, rehabilitation of the families of the victims of the Bodoland movement, withdrawal of all pending cases connected with the Bodoland movement since 1987 as per clause 12.1 of the MoS of the Bodo Accord, rehabilitation of the ex-BLT workers as per clause 12.1 of the MoS, withdrawal of cases of all surrendered NDFB cadres, rehabilitation of surrendered NDFB cadres and rehabilitation of the families of ex-BLT and SNDFB cadres.

The Ex-BLT said that that there are many clauses in the Bodo Accord which are yet to be implemented like withdrawal of cases related to the Bodoland movement, proper rehabilitation of the surrendered cadres and grant of ST status to the Bodos of Karbi Anglong and NC Hills districts.

The Ex-BLT and the Surrendered NDFB have called for a three-hour rail blockade at Kokrajhar and Goreswar railway stations on July 7, a four-hour dharna in Dispur on July 14 and a four-hour National Highway blockade on July 22 to highlight their demands.
