SILCHAR, Sept 29 - The Cachar district administration has taken measures to make small and sustainable differences in society against malnutrition.

Keeping in view the number of severe acute malnourished (SAM) children born in BPL families which could not provide nutritious food to their children, a project named Parvarish an initiative against malnutrition - was launched at Rajabazar here on Monday.

Deputy Commissioner Keerthi Jalli inaugurated the programme along with ADC (Social Welfare department) Lalita Rongpipi, ICDS District Social Welfare Officer Saswati Shome and North Lakhipur ZPC Sudip Kumar.

Jalli, while addressing people after inaugurating a nutri garden, said, It is important that every child between 0-5 years get proper nutrition for normal growth and development. People must consume locally available traditional food instead of going for commercially available packaged food.

She also urged everyone to reduce the intake of salt as consumption of more salt is harmful, which leads to hypertension and other ailments.

The Deputy Commissioner along with Social Welfare Officer and ZPC took the responsibility of providing food to children as part of the project launch.

District Social Welfare Officer Shome said the main thrust of Poshan Maah is creating awareness among the masses for feeding children, lactating mothers and pregnant women nutritious food, which will help in the all-round development of children.
