Project Aanchal of Lions Club of Gauhati draws CM�s praise

GUWAHATI, Oct 11 - The Lions Club of Gauhati has drawn praise from Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal for its Project �Aanchal'�which aims to rebuild and renovate around 300 houses damaged during the recent floods in lower Assam, a press release stated.

�The Chief Minister, in a statement, said that the Lions Club of Gauhati�s noteworthy work of rebuilding/renovating 28 houses at Bali village in Nalbari district is a prime example of social activism in a true sense.� He also lauded the Lions Club for installing deep tubewells in the flood-affected areas under project Aanchal to provide safe drinking water to the residents.

"Lions Clubs have always been at the forefront of social service and its activities in Assam, where recurring floods result in destruction of life and property every year, have brought succour to scores of affected people in the time of crisis," Sonowal added.

The villagers have also appreciated the humane gesture of the Lions Club. The president of the Lions Club of Gauhati Kishore Saboo said, �Through Project Aanchal, under the leadership of our project chairman Sushil Jain, we envisage to rebuild/renovate 300 houses damaged by floods in the lower Assam region. The first lot of 28 houses in and around Bali village in Nalbari district has been completed and handed over to the beneficiaries on October 8,� he said.

Sushil Jain said the houses were rebuilt/renovated to withstand any calamities in the future. �I�m thankful to the gaonburah and community leaders of Bali village, who guided and assisted our team in identifying the genuine beneficiaries. The team Aanchal also expresses its gratitude to the district administration for their support and cooperation,� Jain said.
