Prohibitory orders in West Police District

GUWAHATI, July 4 - Prohibitory orders on assembly of more than five persons, agitations, demonstrations, processions and shouting of slogans without prior permission from the competent authority have been put on place in areas falling under the West Police District, Guwahati.

An order to this effect has been issued by Bhanwar Lal Meena, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) of West Police District, Guwahati, under Section 144 of CrPC.

It covers the entire West Police District which includes areas falling under Bharalumukh, Fatasil Ambari, Gorchuk, Jalukbari and Azara police stations and has come into effect from June 30.

�� it has been made to appear to me that some specified and unspecified persons or group of persons or organisations/associations are likely to disturb normal functioning of offices, movement of public and flow of traffic in parts of West Police District, Guwahati, and it is apprehended that such groups or organisations/associations are planning to carry out agitation/demonstration/shouting of slogans in parts of West Police District, Guwahati, which may cause breach of peace and public order and may cause disturbance/interruption of peaceful movement of public, traffic and also normal functioning of offices,� said the order.

The order added, �� it is necessary to take preventive measures to ensure peaceful movement of public, smooth flow of traffic and normal functioning of offices.�
