Prohibitory order imposed in Dibrugarh

DIBRUGARH, March 4 - In order that peace and order is maintained in the district, the Additional Deputy Commissioner here today imposed Section 144 CrPC in the entire district.

Under the prohibitory orders, assembly of five or more people in public places, carrying of sticks, dagger, sword or other weapons, disrupting traffic by taking out rallies, staging demonstration, hunger strike, burning effigies, weapon training, construction of martyr�s memorials at government or semi-government places and forceful collection of donations, holding lottery and gambling have been banned.

The order has also banned bursting of crackers in public places and roads, throwing colour and other objectionable things on people particularly on women and children, passing offensive comments on women, among others.

However, cinema halls, places of worship, educational institutions, bus stops, railways stations and such other places have been exempted in the matter of assembly of five or more people.

2 held with ganja: Police last night intercepted a two wheeler at Boiragimoth here, which was transporting ganja (marijuana) and arrested two persons in this connection.

The police team seized 850 grams of the ganja from the possession of Nitu Das of Banipur Dhekeri Gaon and Chandra Kanta Patel, a resident of Madhya Pradesh while they were coming on a motorcycle. Both were arrested under NDPS Act.
