�Progress being held back by multiple factors�

MORIGAON, Dec 1 - A two-day seminar on the topic, �Make in India and the Relevance of the Act East Policy� was held at Morigaon College here recently, where more than 100 scholars, professors of different universities, colleges of the country took part.

Inaugurating the seminar, Dr Kandarpa Kumar Deka, Vice-Chancellor, Srimanta Sankardev University said that �Make in India� is a recent policy-related programme of the Government of India with a view to attain inclusive growth and development. Dr Deka observed that India�s development is still being retarded by a multiplicity of factors. Producing in India and establishing healthy trade practices with the eastern nations are two long-standing development goals of the Indian Government, Dr Deka added.

Delivering the keynote lecture, noted scholar, Dr Sudhakar Panda said that looking to China and other eastern countries, the Government of India headed by Narendra Modi, has chalked out the �Make In India� policy. But as far as technology, education with reference to �Make In India� programme is concerned, the country is lagging far behind , he added. The first session of the seminar was chaired by Dr Nageswar Sarma, Joint Secretary, Indian Economic Association.

Eminent economists Dr SB Medhi, Dr AK Neog, Dr DD Mali, Dr PM Passa also participated in the seminar. Earlier, Dr LK Borthakur, Principal of the college welcomed the guests.
