Programmes on rabies held

GUWAHATI, Oct 1 - On the occasion of the 13th World Rabies Day a programme was organised at the College of Veterinary Science, Assam Agricultural University, Khanapara here on September 28 at the initiative of Dr Jyoti B Dutta, Professor, veterinary epidemiology & preventive medicine, according to a press release issued today.

Commensurate with the theme of the day � �Vaccinate to Eliminate�, � a free anti-rabies vaccination camp for companion and stray dogs and cats was organised in the veterinary clinical complex under the supervision of Dr Dijen Kalita, in-charge Director, assisted by the 4th year batch of BVSc & AH students.

The programme was inaugurated by Dr BN Saikia, Dean, Faculty of Veterinary Science, AAU, Khanapara.

On the same day an outreach programme on rabies awareness was organised at the lower primary school at Nortap, Sonapur in collaboration with the Department of Health & Family Welfare and Department of Veterinary & Animal Husbandry.

The resource persons were Dr KK Sharma, Dr RK Sharma and Dr SA Laskar. The programme was also attended by Dr Surajit Kalita, Senior Medical Officer of MPHC, Nortap and Dr Runu Das, District Disease Surveillance Officer along with other health officials and community workers.

Both the programmes were supported by AAUTA (VF), Blue Cross and Virbac Animal Health.

On the occasion, the 5th year BVSc & AH and postgraduate students of the College of Veterinary Science participated in a short educational video competition on the theme �Vaccinate to Eliminate�.
