JALUKBARI, Jan 20 - A workshop-cum-awareness programme on urban agriculture is being organised on January 24 under the sponsorship of the Assam Science Technology and Environment Council (ASTEC) on the premises of Assam Science Society office at Khanapara here.
The objective of the programme is to acquaint the urban population of Guwahati and its adjourning areas with the scope and issues of urban agriculture like roof top farming, vertical farming, vermi-composting and mushroom cultivation. Due to a gradual decline in cultivable landmass on account of rise in population pressure, time has come for mankind to accept urban agriculture for betterment of food source and maintaining a balanced greenery.
The event is being jointly organised by the Advanced Level Institutional Biotech Hub of the Department of Biotechnology, Gauhati University in collaboration with Assam Science Society. The major target participants will be both men and women who reside in buildings and apartments of Guwahati.
