Prog on Polycystic ovary syndrome

GUWAHATI, Sept 8 - Ayursundra Superspecialty Hospital recently launched a programme dedicated to the education of women as a whole on Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS).

According to Dr Ayona Barthakur, the most important point in the fight against PCOS is public awareness.

PCOS services will be available 24 x 7 at the hospital with in-house senior consultants, paramedics and support services.

At the launch programme held at the hospital, popular actress Barsha Rani Bishaya also highlighted the importance of an in-depth knowledge of PCOS, which otherwise may assume extreme proportions.

PCOS is a set of symptoms due to elevated androgens (male hormones) in women. Signs and symptoms of PCOS include irregular or no menstrual periods, heavy periods, excess body and facial hair, acne, pelvic pain, difficulty getting pregnant and patches of thick, darker, velvety skin. Associated conditions include type 2 diabetes, obesity, obstructive sleep apnoea, heart disease, mood disorders and endometrial cancer.
