Prog on organic farming

GUWAHATI, March 28 - A field day on �integrated organic farming system (IOFS) for improving system productivity and profitability� was conducted on Tuesday by the Division of Crop Production, ICAR Research Complex for NEH Region, at Umiam, under the Network Project on Organic Farming (NPOF).

The programme was attended by 80 farmers from villages in Ri-Bhoi district. Dr Jayanta Layek, scientist (agronomy) and project investigator of the NPOF, spoke on the need of IOFS for enhancing system productivity and income of farmers.

Dr R Laha, in-charge, Director of ICAR Institute, highlighted the importance of livestock, including poultry in IOFS, for supply of quality manure, a release received here stated.
