Prof RP Chaudhuri passes away

GUWAHATI, Dec 29 � Prof Rajendra Prasad Chaudhuri, a resident of Ashok Path, Survey, Beltola, passed away today.

He was 96 and suffering from old-age ailments.

Born in 1914, Prof Chaudhuri had a brilliant academic life securing first class first position in both BSc and MSc examinations from Presidency College. He obtained his PhD from London University and also did his post doctorate there.

Dr Chaudhuri who started as a lecturer in Cotton College had a distinguished career during which he held various positions including Head of the Division, Indian Council of Agricultural Research (ICAR) and Director, Potato Research Institute, Shimla. After retiring from ICAR, he joined Dibrugarh University as Professor and Head of the Dept of Life Science there.

Prof Chaudhuri was associated with Assam Agriculture University, Jorhat, and represented India as Agricultural Scientist in several countries including Japan, Belgium and Italy. He was also the president of the Indian Agricultural Science Congress held at Bangalore.

Prof Chaudhuri leaves behind a daughter and three sons.
