GUWAHATI, June 4 - The 15th Prof HP Das Memorial Meet commemorating the 15th death anniversary of Dr Hari Prasanna Das, founder Head of the Department of Geography, Gauhati University, and founder president of the North-East India Geographical Society (NEIGS), was held at the Dept of Geography today.

Dr MM Das, retired Professor, Dept of Geography, GU, delivered the memorial lecture on 'Dismal forest scenario of Assam'. GU Vice Chancellor Dr Mridul Hazarika inaugurated the meet as the chief guest.

The programme organised by NEIGS in association with Dept of Geography, was attended by members of geography fraternity, members of the family of Late Das and well-wishers. TP Das also spoke as a guest of honour.

The Prof HP Das Memorial Award, instituted by the NEIGS consisting of a trophy, a cash amount of Rs 5000 and a citation, was presented to Suli Yohana Ayemi of the Department of Geography, GU, for securing the first position in the MA/MSc examination in Geography, 2017, under GU in the open session of the 29th NEIGS biennial conference held at B Borooah College here on February 10.
