Prof D Deka new president of ACT

JALUKBARI, Aug 16 - Prof Dibakar Chandra Deka, Department of Chemistry, Gauhati University has been elected as president of the all India Association of Chemistry Teachers (ACT) for three years. He will take over charge from the present president Prof SD Samant in January 2017 and continue in the post till December 2019.

ACT is a national organisation of chemistry teachers shouldering diverse responsibilities, including conducting the Indian National Standard Examination and Indian National Chemistry Olympiad. It is also associated with the International Chemistry Olympiad and many other responsibilities.

The ACT is divided into six zones (North, South, East, West, Central and North-East zone), and each zone has one vice president, but there is only one president.

Prof Deka has been associated with ACT since its inception in 2001. ACT has its head office at the Homi Bhabha Centre for Science Education, Mumbai. He has previously served the ACT as secretary and vice president of the North-East Zone.
