Prof AK Mukherjee takes over as IASST director

GUWAHATI, Dec 4 - Prof Ashis K Mukherjee recently took charge as the director of the Institute of the city-based Advanced Study in Science and Technology (IASST), a premier scientific autonomous research organisation under the Department of Science & Technology, Government of India in the North-east.

Before joining IASST, he had served as the Professor of the Department of Molecular Biology and Biotechnology at Tezpur University. He served in different capacities in various research-based administrative positions in NE India.

Prof Mukherjee is also an Adjunct Professor at the School of Biological Sciences, University of Northern Colorado, USA and a sabbatical visitor at University of Connecticut Health Center, USA. A gold medal recipient alumnus of Banaras Hindu University, Prof Mukherjee has also received the highest academic degree, Doctor of Science (DSc) in Biotechnology from Calcutta University in 2017. He has been working for more than 25 years on snake venom and improvement of treatment of snakebite.

He has received several awards and medals from various nationally and internationally-reputed institutions for his academic and research achievements and among them the Visitor�s Award for Research in Basic and Applied Sciences from the President of India in 2018.
