Process of filing papers for RS polls begins in Arunachal

ITANAGAR, June 2 - The process of filing nominations for election to the lone Rajya Sabha seat in Arunachal Pradesh began today with the Election Commission of India issuing the notification for the election, scheduled on June 19.

The term of office of the incumbent Rajya Sabha member, Mukut Mithi, expires on June 23. He was elected to the Council of States on a Congress ticket.

As per the notification, the last day for making nominations is June 9 with June 10 being the date for scrutiny of nominations. The last date for withdrawal of candidature is June 12. Counting of votes will take place on the date of polling (June 19) itself. June 22 is fixed as the date before which the election will be completed.

To conduct the election, State Legislative Assembly Secretary Kago Habung has been appointed as the Returning Officer and Joint Secretary Agaab Mossang as the Assistant Returning Officer. All necessary preparations have been made for smooth conduct of the election, Arunachal Pradesh Joint Chief Electoral Officer DJ Bhattacharjee stated in a release here today.
