AGARTALA, Feb 29 - The Tripura State Election Commission has initiated the process to conduct elections to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) by May 17, the date on which the term of the present council expires.

The draft electoral rolls will be published on March 10 and the last date for submission of claims and objections will be March 17, said State Election Commissioner ML Dey in a notification here today.

He added that claims and objections regarding the draft electoral rolls would be disposed of from March 18 to March 21, while the final electoral rolls would be published on March 26.

The final electoral rolls for 60 Assembly constituencies prepared with January 2020 as the base year will be used as reference while preparing the voters list for the tribal council, Roy stated.

The poll panel will follow the guidelines laid down under the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (Constitution, Election and Conduct of Business) Rules, 1985.

Once the final electoral rolls are published, the State poll panel will announce the election dates. Earlier, Chief Executive Member of TTAADC Radha Charan Debbarma had asked the State Government to conduct the elections before the expiry of the term of the present council.
