Problems plague citys SB Deorah College

By City Correspondent

GUWAHATI, May 26 - The students of SB Deorah College located at Bora Service area have a long list of grievances, many of which have remained unaddressed for years together.

Informing about the problems, Dip Jyoti Deka, the general secretary of the SB Deorah College Students Union, said, Though our college is located in a central area of Guwahati, we still have a lot of problems. The list includes from lack of playground to waterlogging.

According to Deka, earlier there is a playground on the campus of their college. But recently the college authority has started construction work on it as the departments and number of students are increasing day by day.

Recently, we used the playgrounds of Ulubari High School and Gauhati Medical College and Hospital to organise the annual sports event. The situation has been persisting for the last two years, said Deka.

Again, the college doesn't have a boys hostel. We have students from places like Haflong, Dimapur, etc., and they need a hostel to stay. Most of these students stay in private hostels and rented accommodations, which prove very costly. Hope the State government will sanction necessary fund and land to set up the hostel, the GS added.

He also alleged that there is no proper arrangement for pure drinking water on the college campus.

Recently, the college authority has installed a water cooler, but many times, it remains non-functional. We have already appealed to the college authority to fix the problem, but nothing has been done so far except assurances in this regard, he told The Assam Tribune.

The general secretary informed that there are no common rooms for boys and girls in the college.

Common room is very much necessary for college students, which provides space to utilise their spare time. But we have no scope to utilise our spare time inside the college campus. Moreover, if it rains throughout the day, waterlogging takes place. It is a serious issue for us, Deka alleged.

Meanwhile, insufficient parking spaces inside the college campus for both two-wheelers and four-wheelers create chaos among the teachers and students.
