Problems of civic bodies discussed

GUWAHATI, June 16 - A meeting of the chairmen and the vice chairmen of the town committees and municipal boards of the State under the BJP, that was held today at ITA, Machkhowa, discussed the problems faced by the civic bodies, steps taken by them to ensure the basic amenities provided to the public, besides the initiatives aimed at making every district clean and beautiful.

The meeting was also attended by Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal, Cabinet Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and State BJP president in-charge Santanu Bharali among other senior leaders of the party.

The elected representatives of the civic bodies pointed out that development works in the urban areas have been hampered on account of fund crunch. The representatives called upon the Chief Minister to take necessary steps for release of funds to the civic bodies so that development works can be undertaken in the urban areas.

Sonowal assured the representatives that all measures would be taken to resolve the problems faced by the civic bodies. He also asked the civic bodies to focus on plantation drives in the urban areas and to maintain cleanliness.

Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the financial crisis of the State would be addressed soon with support from the Central government and that funds would be released to the civic bodies within a short time.
