Probe to be ordered in new-born exchange case

BONGAIGAON, Sept 17 - The Superintendent of Bongaigaon Civil Hospital has decided to initiate a probe against the nurses who had allegedly handed over a new-born baby to different parents onThursday night.

Susurani Samanta (25), a resident of Bangaljhar in Chirang district, had delivered a baby boy on Thursday at the Bongaigaon Civil Hospital. Sabita Sarkar (23), a woman of Manikpur area in Bongaigaon district, had also delivered a baby boy at the Manikpur Health Centre on Thursday morning. Considering the health condition of the baby, he was admitted to the Bongaigaon Civil Hospital. Both the babies were kept at the ICU under the supervision of nurses and mothers were kept separated.

On Friday night, doctors advised Sabita�s family to take their baby to the Barpeta Medical College for better care and handed over to them a newborn. Sabita�s family left the hospital with the baby. Later, when Susurani�s family wanted to see the baby, then the nurses could sense the mistake and called back Sabita�s family and received the baby, which was of Susurani. Later, they informed the mistake to Susurani�s family.
