HAILAKANDI, March 24 - A magisterial inquiry has been instituted to ascertain the caste certificate of Swarup Das, Congress candidate for the Karimganj SC (reserved) constituency.
In an order, Deputy Commissioner, Hailakandi, Keerthi Jalli constituted a two-member inquiry committee to ascertain the scheduled caste certificate of INC candidate Das following complaint from president, Anusuchit Jati Mahasabha, Central Committee, Assam. SDO (Sadar) Prodip Timung and Assistant Commissioner, RL Changsan will probe the matter and submit the report urgently to Deputy Commissioner, Jalli.
A case has also been registered against Das at Katlicherra Police Station, confirmed the OC Nirmol Biswas.
Das is a resident of Mohadevpur under Katlicherra PS of Hailakandi district.
