Probe sought into road reconstruction

By Staff Correspondent

JORHAT, June 17 - Former Jorhat Municipal Board Ward Commissioner of Ward number 6 Ankur Gupta has urged the JMB authorities to order an inquiry into the recent reconstruction of the Chamber Road done by JMB through a private contractor as he (Gupta) alleged that work was of poor quality.

In a letter to the Chief Executive Officer, JMB, Gupta, a former Ward Commissioner of BJP in the previous municipal board administered by ruling party of Assam, alleged that the work of the said road was not carried out as per work order norms of JMB resulting in inferior quality of construction of the road.

Gupta alleged that the payment for the construction work was made to the contractor without his (Gupta) approval, which he said should have been done as he was the then ward commissioner of the ward where the road is located.

The former JMB ward Commissioner sought a probe to be ordered by board authorities to look into the charges he has levelled to bring out the truth.

It may be mentioned here that Gupta who was a Ward Commissioner of the ruling party of the last JMB run with BJP majority that ended its term on March 31, 2020, during his tenure had been vocal against the board on series of issues accusing financial and other anomalies against the body.

It may be further mentioned here that the JMB, which was administered by BJP since April 1, 2015, was marred by frequent feuds among the saffron party ward commissioners leading to the municipal board having three persons occupying the Chairmans post during the five-year term.

Similarly, two persons have occupied the Vice-Chairmans post with the first one reoccupying the post last year after resigning on November 2017.
