DIBRUGARH, Feb 3: Governor of Assam cum Chancellor of Dibrugarh University vide a notification, has constituted a fact finding committee to probe alleged financial irregularities, embezzlement of public funds and mismanagement by Professor Ranjit Tamuli, Vice Chancellor, Dibrugarh University.

The notification comes in the wake of a series of media reports and continued protests in the varsity by both the teaching and student fraternity as also by the employees’ body against the alleged financial scam by the Vice Chancellor.

The fact finding committee has been constituted with Preetom Saikia, Commissioner & Secretary to the Government of Assam, Higher Education Department as the chairman and Moloy Bora, Commissioner, Upper Assam Division as the Member. They will be assisted by Rajiv Sensua, Scientific Officer and Israphil Musahari, Scientific Officer, Questioned Documents Division, Directorate of Forensic Science, Guwahati.

The committee has been constituted to enquire into various allegations on financial irregularities, to verify and authenticate signatures, handwriting etc., in documents, to examine documents and ascertain facts, to interact with various persons concerned in order to ascertain facts, to do all necessary as per law in order to unearth facts. The committee shall submit its report, after enquiry, within a period of 48 hours from morning of February 4, 2021.

The probe committee members arrived at Dibrugarh University today for the enquiry. The probe team requested cooperation from the Dibrugarh University Teachers’ Association, Officers Association, employees’ union and DU unit of All Assam Students’ Union (AASU), who collectively assembled at the office of the VC on their arrival today.
