By Correspondent

NORTH LAKHIMPUR, March 15 - The district health authorities have ordered an inquiry into the alleged violation of norms and standards by a private hospital in North Lakhimpur following the death of a patient.

The patient, a resident of Ward No. 14 of North Lakhimpur, died at Royal Treat Hospital in Khelmati in North Lakhimpur on the night of March 14, creating a furious situation inside the hospital.

The family members of the deceased accused the attending doctor of wrong treatment as he died after being administered an injection.

The family members also alleged the reluctance shown by the hospital authorities in giving oxygen to the patient. As the situation became tense, the hospital owner along with the staff and nurses fled the premises. Later, a group of security personnel was deployed at the hospital to tackle the situation. Meanwhile, the Lakhimpur unit of Manab Adhikar Sangram Samiti (MASS) along with Bajrang Dal, Hindu Yuva Chatra Parishad and AAMSU demanded action against the hospital by the authorities concerned.

In a joint statement, the four organisations alleged that the hospital violated the Clinical Establishment Act and demanded strict action against it by the State Health Minister.

Following the incident, the Joint Director of Health, Lakhimpur has ordered an enquiry into the alleged irregularities by the hospital authorities.
