Probe into missing land records

GUWAHATI, June 19 - Hearing a second appeal filed by appellant Sajall Singh regarding some missing land records, State Chief Information Commissioner HS Das has directed the Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup (Metro) district to institute an inquiry.

In his order, the State Chief Information Commissioner said the inquiry should be conducted by an officer not below the rank of additional deputy commissioner. Responsibilities should be fixed on the officers and employees concerned followed by disciplinary action as well as action under Section 9 of the Assam Public Records Act, 2002, the CIC said in his order.

The Commission has also decided to review the action taken by the Deputy Commissioner on October 9 next.

During the hearing of a second appeal filed by appellant Sajall Singh, the ADC apprised the Commission that the copies of land sale application and its enclosures could not be provided to the RTI applicant as they could not be traced. He also informed that an FIR in this regard has been lodged at Panbazar PS.

The Assam Information Commission said incidents of irretrievable loss or missing of valuable records due to unspecified or unknown reasons in Kamrup (M) district and in revenue circle offices of the district have become quite frequent.
