GUWAHATI, April 4 Assembly Speaker Pranab Gogoi today asked Commerce and Industries Minister Pradyut Bardoloi to conduct an inquiry into the alleged large-scale anomalies in allotment of industrial sheds to the DS Group at the citys industrial estate.
Raising the matter through a supplementary question, Prasanta Phukan (BJP) said that the DS Group had been allotted as many as seven sheds at the Bamunimaidan industrial estate in Guwahati even though the company was producing only two products.
Citing Central guidelines for industry, Phukan said that as per law no company can be allotted two manufacturing units for the same product within a radius of 150 km. The company was also getting subsidy in crores, he added, demanding a thorough inquiry into the developments.
Bardoloi, in his reply, sought to refute the allegations by stating that the DS Group had been getting benefits within the mandate of existing norms and under the special incentives provided by the North East Industrial Policy since 2000. Speaker Gogoi, however, intervened and asked the minister to get a probe done and take action if illegalities were being committed.
