Probe into DRDA anomalies ordered

By Correspondent

MORIGAON, April 10 The Morigaon Deputy Commissioner on Thursday ordered a probe into the alleged anomalies in the implementation of the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme under the DRDA, Morigaon, particularly in the Lahorighat Development Block.

According to sources, a sum of Rs 1.90 crore was spent under the aegis of the Project Director, DRDA, Morigaon, for the implementation of the MGNREGS in the Lahorighat Block in the last week of March. The reason behind this hurried use of government money in just one week in a particular block is best known to DRDA, Morigaon, but the fact remains that this huge amount of Morigaon DRDA was spent on the material component of the scheme in glaring violation of MGNREGS norms and guidelines.

Moreover, there are clear-cut government guidelines both from the State and Central governments that 90 per cent funds of MGNREGS must be spent on wages and 10 per cent should be spent on material component. But in recent expenditures of the DRDA, Morigaon, at Lahorighat, this norm was violated. Apart from this, there must be equal distribution of funds among all development blocks as per the guidelines. But in Morigaon district, only in Lahorighat block, a sum of Rs 2 crore was spent as administrative expenditure, while there was no expenditure in the four other development blocks of the district.

In 2014-15 financial year, a sum of Rs 49 crore was sanctioned to Morigaon district for the Indira Awas Yojana. Out of this amount, four per cent administrative expenditure is permissible for every block of the district. But the Morigaon DRDA PD did not spend this amount. Only two per cent was spent just at Lahorighat. The Morigaon DC has ordered a probe into these anomalies. The Finance and Accounts Officer, Morigaon, has started an inquiry into the case.
