Probe into alleged funds misuse sought

By Correspondent

TURA, June 27 - The Meghalaya Lokayukta has called for a probe into allegations of funds misuse in welfare schemes under the Williamnagar GHADC constituency. The Meghalaya DGP has been asked to lead the probe.

The allegations relate to a case filed by social activist Nilbath Marak against former GHADC CEC Denang Sangma. Marak has complained that most development projects meant for Williamnagar have not been completed. While some projects have not been executed properly, others have not been implemented at all, he alleged.

Lokayukta Chairman PK Musahary on Tuesday asked the DGP to initiate the inquiry and submit a report within four weeks.

A notice has also been issued to the current GHADC chairman, Denang T Sangma, the Secretary and 15 contractors whose names appear on the list of projects under the constituency.
