BARPETA, March 10 - The Barpeta district committee of Krishak Mukti Sangram Samiti (KMSS) and Chatra Mukti Sangram Samiti (CMSS) have registered strong protest against alleged corruption in the appointment process of the Panchayat and Rural Development Department and demanded a free and fair inquiry into the entire proceedings.

Members of both the organisations gathered at Panch Ali Chowk here yesterday and burnt the effigies of Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal and Panchayat and Rural Development Minister Naba Doley to register their protest against the scam.

The Chief Minister, who has been often harping on eradicating corruption and nepotism, has turned a blind eye in this regard. BJP has set an all-time record as far as corruption is concerned, the leaders of the organisations claimed.

They also alleged that genuine and deserving candidates have been denied appointment, which has become a matter of concern. The leaders also threatened a mass agitation against the alleged corrupt practices instigated by the BJP leaders.
