Probable ULFA-I recruits arrested

JORHAT, Dec 18 - Golaghat Police last night arrested two youths of Biswanath district from a bus at Rongajan Tiniali on the outskirts of Golaghat town on charges of fleeing their homes to join the Ulfa-I.

A Golaghat police source told this newspaper that acting on a specific information, a Golaghat Police team supported by CRPF personnel apprehended Naba Handique (19) and Rubul Bonia (18) from a bus coming from Dimapur.

The source said that Handique, an undergraduate student while Bonia, a class X dropout, were from Bishnu Jyoti Dham Nigam area under Gohpur Police Station of Biswanath district on the north bank of the Brahmaputra.

The source stated both the youths, reportedly after coming in contact with a linkman of Ulfa-I, had fled from their homes and reached Dimapur two days ago to meet some person to help them to join the outfit. The duo reportedly were on their way to Mon district of Nagaland in order to cross over to Myanmar to reach the camps of the outlawed organisation.
