GUWAHATI, Oct 2 - The maiden edition of the Invitational Prize-money Athletics Competition, organised by Assam Athletics Association in collaboration with the Assam Olympic Association held at the Judges� Field here today.
Guwahati emerged champions in the day-long meet with 5 gold, 2 silver and as many bronze medals. Tezpur (2 gold, 1 silver) came second while Tinsukia (2 gold, 2 bronze) took the third position. Events like 100m, 200m, 400m, high jump and long jump for boys and girls and two para events were organised in the meet. Gold medallists were presented Rs 10,000 while silver and bronze medallists received Rs 6,000 and Rs 4,000 respectively. Inaugurating the meet Chief Minister Sarbananda Sonowal thanked all the athletes for participating in the meet. Minister Siddhartha Bhattacharyya, MP Queen Ojha, Bhubaneswar Kalita, MLA Ritruparna Baruah among others were present.
Commissioner and Secretary, Sports Dr M Angamuthu welcomed the gathering while AOA secretary Lakhya Konwar explained about the meet.
