Private schools should extend admission-renewal fee deadline

By Staff Reporter

GUWAHATI, March 25 - In view of the prevailing coronavirus (Covid-19) pandemic, the All India Professionals Congress (AIPC) today urged the education department to issue an advisory to private schools regarding extension of time for payment of admission and renewal fee.

Due to Covid-19 pandemic the countrys economy has come to a standstill. The country is caught with this epidemic in the crucial month of March when the educational institutes and schools start the new academic year from April. As such, the last dates for payment of admission fee, etc. are fixed generally in March with March 31 as the commonly informed dates. With the country coming to a grinding halt it is not appropriate for the school authorities to ask for yearly school fees for regular and promoted students either by online or through other means till the lockdown period gets over. Doing so would amount to a huge pressure on the families who are fighting for survival. Hence we urge the State education department to ensure that such admission and renewal fee mechanism is deferred to a prescribed time period set by the department. We request the education department to issue a notification to all such private education institutes, said AIPC State unit president Gauravv Somani.

AIPC has also urged the State government to ensure that essential services like electricity, water, telephone and mobile services do not get disconnected for non-payment of bills during this period of lockdown.
