DHUBRI, May 3 - The Inland Water Transport Department (IWT) has restricted all kinds of boat services in the rivers of Dhubri district, to minimise damage from cyclone Fani.
DN Sharma, Junior Engineer of Ferry Services, IWT has informed that as cyclone Fani will hit the district soon, so all the private boats including launches that ply in the rivers have been stopped immediately. He also informed that the department has taken this decision following verbal instructions from the DC, Dhubri and from the ADC, DDMA. It may be mentioned that private boat services are considered to be the lifeline of the district. Every day more than 2500 private boats ply in the rivers of the district among which more than 800 alone ply to Dhubri town from various char areas.
