PRISM fields young blood for LS polls

By Correspondent

AIZAWL, March 18 - PRISM (Peoples Representative for Identity and Status of Mizoram) today named TBC Lalvenchhunga as its official candidate for Lok Sabha election to be held in Mizoram on April 11.

Aged 36, Lalvenchhunga is the youngest among the four contestants for the lone Lok Sabha seat in this Northeastern State.

PRISM, that made secession as its major poll issue for the Parliamentary elections, announced its candidate from the house of R Zamawia, one of the few surviving signatories of Mizoram Independence declaration made in 1966.

Announcing the partys candidate, PRISM president Vanlalruata said his party stood for independence and sovereignty for the Mizos.

For our party, the Citizenship Amendment Bill is the main issue. So, we will try and bring a Right to Secession Bill in Parliament to oppose the CAB.

The Central Government is trying to take our identity and rights with the CAB, he said.

Lalvenchhunga is a retired petty officer (engineering mechanic) of the Indian Navy. After he retired from service in 2016, he established a flourishing business TBC Enterprise at his hometown Champhai. He contested the Assembly elections in November 2018 on PRISM ticket from Champhai North and garnered only 161 votes.
