Prime Minister arriving in Manipur today

By CORRESPONDENT

IMPHAL, Jan 3 - Prime Minister Narendra Modi will arrive on a days visit to Manipur tomorrow.

Chief Minister N Biren Singh said that the Prime Minister would inaugurate a number of projects including the Integrated Check Post at Moreh and the Dolaithabi Barrage Project in the Maraori area. He will also lay the foundation stone for the installation of floodlights at the main and hockey stadiums at the Khuman Lampak Sports Complex here.

Biren Singh last night inspected the preparations at Hapta Kangjeibung in Imphal East district, where the Prime Minister will address a public meeting.

Meanwhile, Opposition Congress leaders have demanded a clarification from the Prime Minister on various promises made by him and his party during the election rallies including implementation of the 7th Pay Commission report for employees, creation of 1.5 lakh jobs in the State, etc.

We welcome the visit of the Prime Minister, said Congress Legislature Party leader O Ibobi Singh while briefing reporters here this afternoon. At the same, we also want the Prime Minister to clarify on the promises he made during his previous visit.

In his February 25, 2017 election campaign near Imphal, Modi had said that what the Congress Government could not do in 15 years would be done in 15 months if the BJP came to power, Ibobi said. But the present Government is only inaugurating works which were started or were on the verge of completion by the previous Government, he added.

Except for a few womens markets in the district headquarters, there has been no initiative in the State, Ibobi Singh said. Even the Jiribam Railway Project has been progressing at a snails pace. There is also no visible development of the National Sports University, he alleged.

Meanwhile, armed groups in the State have announced a boycott of the Prime Ministers visit by calling a total shutdown from 1 am on January 4 till he leaves the State. Security measures have been tightened to thwart any untoward incident during Modis visit.
