MANGALDAI, Sept 22 � Darrang Police which had drawn flak for its failure to nab the persons involved in the sensational dacoity and murder case here at the residence of eminent high court lawyer and prominent businessman Binay Kr Ghosh, heaved a sigh of relief when it managed to nab the prime accused of the case, Mainul Haque (36), s/o Ahmat Ali, a resident of Islampur village under Dhula PS on Saturday. This was informed here on Sunday by Vivek Raj Singh, the Superintendent of Police, Darrang. He was addressing the media in the presence of Diganta Kr Chudhury ASP (Head Quarter) Darrang who was leading the operation against the miscreants.
The police claimed that Mainul who had been absconding since the day of incident on August 29 last was picked up from a hide-out at Kharupetia town. A cash of Rs 25,000 suspected to have been looted from the lawyer�s house has also been recovered from his possession, stated SP Singh. The arrested person has confessed his direct involvement in the gruesome incident in the heart of Mangaldai town.
The SP added that Safikul Islam (22), s/o Nurul Sheikh, a resident of Ghansimalu under Kharupetia PS who was earlier arrested was providing logistic support to the gang which has 15 members. He further claimed that the police has identified all the culprits and will soon book all of them.
