AIZAWL, May 21 - Prices of essential commodities soared as the indefinite strike spearheaded by Mizoram�s Commercial Vehicles Joint Action Committee (CVJAC) entered the fourth day today.
The price of tomato was Rs 100 a kilo on Saturday while the price of potato also shot up to Rs 40 a kilo.
The prices of vegetables and other essential commodities imported from outside the State soared as the CVJAC volunteers stopped all vehicles on the National Highway 54, the lifeline of the State since May 18.
The State Government instructed all the filling stations to ration petrol and diesel due to scarcity of oil, an official said.
Those on strike included trucks, city buses, maxicabs and taxis while the CVJAC volunteers stopped all the tanker trucks carrying oil from entering the State, CVJAC sources said.
Meanwhile, the government in a statement urged the commercial vehicles to ply or face suspension of permits and even cancellation if they continued to create hardship for the general public and violate the conditions laid down in their permits. � PTI
