Presentation on monorail in city

GUWAHATI, April 10 � Noted construction company Engineering Projects India Ltd today made a presentation before Chief Minister Tarun Gogoi at his Khanapara official residence here on the monorail system for Guwahati city.

In its presentation, the company focused on the possibilities of introducing the monorail system in the city at nominal cost and by occupying lesser areas. Chairman of the company SPS Bakshi told the Chief Minister that monorail is soundless and hence it is environment-friendly.

Further, he said, monorail is very safe and dependable. It does not jump the rail and it can be easily connected with the flyovers.

The cost of monorail is half of that of the metro rail. Monorail can carry 1000 passengers at a time, the company claimed.

It also told the Chief Minister that it executes various projects under public-private partnership. It also presented a brief description of the construction and infrastructure projects it has undertaken in various parts of the country.

The company was told by the Chief Minister that he would examine the issue of introduction of monorail in Guwahati city.

Guwahati Metropolitan Development Authority (GMDA) chairman Captain Robin Bordoloi, Principal Secretary to the Chief Minister TY Das, GMDA officers and senior officers of the Engineering Projects India were also present on the occasion, said an official press release.
