Preparations on to celebrate Doul Mohotsav in Barpeta

BARPETA, March 14 - The Sri Krishna Doul Mohotsav will be observed in Barpeta Satra with a three-day programme from March 20.

In this connection a series of programmes has been lined up to make the festival a grand success. According to information, first day of the festival will be observed as Bahnutsava or Gondh Jatra. Dol Gobinda will be brought from the Manikut or the Bhajghar of the Satra with gayan bayan. Fireworks will be showcased by 10 families engaged in the indigenous fireworks industry. Burha Satriya Bashishtha Dev Sarma will inaugurate the Bahnutsava cultural show.

Bhar Doul will be observed on March 21. After the routine morning prayers by the devotees, Ghosha Kirtan, and Byas Kirtan will be performed.

A cultural evening titled �Bhardoul� will be held, which will be inaugurated by renowned Satriya exponent and Assam government cultural pensioner Basudeb Das.

The famous �Suweri� of Barpeta Satra will be celebrated on March 22. Dol Gobinda and the Kalia Thakur will be taken to the Kalbari Satra with a huge procession in the afternoon.

Cultural programmes mainly based on Sattriya tradition titled �Suweri Cultural Eve� will be performed and it will be inaugurated by Satriya artiste Achyutananda Ojah.

During the festival, people from various parts of the State and even outside visit Barpeta to witness and participate in the festival. The satra management committee has requested the people to cooperate for successful celebration of the festival.

�We are expecting more visitors this year, and accordingly, we have arranged facilities to accommodate them,� a senior member of the reception committee said.

Meanwhile, the Deputy Commissioner of Barpeta district has declared local holiday on March 22 under the Negotiable Instrument Act, 1881 on account of the Doul festival. All the Central and the State Government offices in the district will remain closed on that day.
