Preparations on for Namami Brahmaputra fest in Majuli dist

MAJULI, March 18 - Along with the other districts of the State, the Majuli district administration has also geared up for the five-day Namami Brahmaputra Festival to be held from March 31 to April 4 on the bank of the river Brahmaputra at Kamalabari Ferry Ghat and at the Majuli College playground at Dariapar.

On Friday, Majuli DC Pallab Gopal Jha erected the laikhuta (main pillar) of this festival at the Majuli College playground of Dariapar. A number of people including ADC Chinmay Nath and the Majuli district BJP president Dipak Goswami attended the programme.

Jha expressed the hope that through this festival, the tourists and the guests will get a glimpse of Majuli�s cultural and spiritual heritage and the administration of this district with the help of its people will make the festival a successful one.

The festival will feature many colourful programmes like � marathon, yoga, Satra visit, traditional attire, locally produced and processed foods, handloom items, diha naam competition, local games, literary competition, bicycle riding competition, child drama and seminars etc.

The sports, spiritual programmes and a number of entertaining programmes for tourists are scheduled to be held at Kamalabari Ghat and the exhibitions, meetings and night shows will be held at Majuli College playground at Dariapar.

On the other hand, the exhibition sub-committee under the main celebration committee of this festival has also made widespread preparations to make the exhibition one of the most attractive programmes of the festival.

After the erection of main pillar at Daripar on Friday, the committee has already started to construct the huts for the exhibition where a number of Self Help Groups, NGOs and private commercial group will participate.
