Preparation for ensuing Ambubachi Mela reviewed

GUWAHATI, June 8 - A meeting was held here earlier this week to review the ongoing preparation for the forthcoming Ambubachi Mela. The meeting was held with Deputy Commissioner of Kamrup (Metro) Virendra Mittal in the chair.

Ambubachi Mela is schedule to be held from June 22 to June 25 and various departments including the district administration, the tourism department and ATDC are working on different aspects related to the event.

Mittal asked each department to complete the respective tasks assigned to them by June 18. He stressed the need for having proper lighting along the road from the foothills of Nilachal to the Kamakhya Temple.

The DC asked the officials to set up resting sheds for the pilgrims in a proper manner and also to install adequate number of toilets and provision of water for them.

For safekeeping of shoes and chappals of pilgrims, four stalls are to be installed at various locations from the foothills to the police station of the temple.

Mittal asked the Joint Director of Health Services to station paediatricians at the pilgrims� camp and also asked him to ensure proper arrangement of mobile medical units.

Mittal also emphasised installation of proper signage for the help of pilgrims and publication of proper roadmap of the temple.

He directed the transport department to provide small vehicles for ferrying pilgrims and for their hassle-free movement.

The meeting decided to hold all the cultural functions related to the Mela on the Sonaram HS School field.

Commissioner of Police, Guwahati, HC Nath who also attended the meeting, asked PWD officials to make proper provisions for setting up police booths at the various camps where pilgrims will stay.

He said that volunteers to be deployed from Scouts and Guides and Civil Defence would be briefed by police officials.
