BONGAIGAON, May 22 � A pregnant woman, named Dipanwita Rabha (31), died on Wednesday at the Bongaigaon Civil Hospital here allegedly due to want of proper medical care.
Dipanwita�s husband Sadananda Barman (36), who is an agricultural labourer, had first admitted her on Tuesday night to the mini health centre at Bidyapur in Bongaigaon district, after she developed labour pains. However, considering her critical state, the Ayurvedic doctor of the health centre, Dilip Kalita referred her to the Bongaigaon Civil Hospital the same night.
Barman alleged that his pregnant wife was strangely put under the supervision of an eye specialist instead of an obstetrician, and she had to die with the baby in her womb due to lack of proper medical care.
Hospital superintendent Dr AK Baruah, when asked about the anomalies, tried to hide the fact and negligence on their part by beating around the bush.
